PUREVPNNewsGoogle Pixel 6 Series Faces Bricking Issues After Resets

There is a serious problem affecting all Google Pixel 6 series models—the Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 6 Pro. Attempts to factory reset these phones have caused severe issues, essentially bricking the devices and making them unusable.

What is Happening with the Pixel 6?

All users attempting a factory reset on their Google Pixel 6 series phones are encountering a critical error that leaves their devices “bricked.” The factory reset, intended to erase all personal data and return the phone to its initial settings, is typically performed in preparation for resale or to rejuvenate the system.

However, this routine procedure has resulted in devices that fail to boot. Users have reported being shown an error message about a missing ‘tune2fs’ file, followed by a recovery screen stating: “Cannot load Android system. Your data may be corrupt.” Further attempts to reset the device only lead to a continuous loop of failures, without restoring the phone’s functionality.

Challenges and Responses

The severity of this issue is compounded by the fact that the locked bootloader on these devices prevents any manual software repairs using Android flash tools or other common troubleshooting methods. Even attempts to sideload updates with ADB stop midway, offering no relief.

While some users involved in the “bricking” incidents are part of the Android 15 beta program, this is not the case for all, so the exact cause remains unclear. Google’s response has been varied, particularly as these issues arise just after their devices’ warranties have expired, making it challenging to obtain proper support.

Discussions on Reddit reveal that Google’s repair services diagnosed the problem as a motherboard malfunction and quoted a substantial fee to repair devices no longer covered by warranty.

Volunteer moderators on Google forums have indicated that the company’s engineers are aware of the problem and are looking into it, although they have not yet given any clear guidance on how users should handle their devices.

Final Word

Owners of the Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 6 Pro should stay informed through reliable sources and wait for official updates from Google. In the meantime, ensuring data backups and avoiding any factory resets, though inconvenient, are critical steps to prevent potential device failure.
